Career, kids and an Ironman

Ever feel like you’re juggling more than just your career? Try adding parenting and training for an Ironman into the mix.

As tech professionals, we face intense schedules and the pressure to stay ahead. But managing a career, kids and an intense training regimen? That’s a whole new challenge. I’ve learned a few valuable strategies along the way, and not just because I’m getting older, and hopefully wiser, today.

  • Prioritize relentlessly. Every day, choose your top focus and stick to it.
  • Consistency fuels success. Whether it’s a pre-dawn run or a late-night coding session, showing up is half the battle.
  • Build a strong support system. Empower your team at work, lean on family at home, and connect with fellow athletes for motivation. You know how good those Strava kudos feel.
  • Sharpen your mind and body. Training improves focus at work, helps you stay grounded at home, and is a powerful tool for managing stress.
  • Flexibility is a superpower. Remote work is a gift; use it to balance your professional and personal goals.

It’s all about progress, not perfection. Each day is an opportunity to realign and refocus.
